Laminate Benchtops

Polytec, Pearl Fabrini Laminate Benchtops.

Full Bullnose Postform edge by Compass Kitchens, Australia.

Benchtops can be finished in a variety of Edge Profiles.

The range of Laminates available today for Kitchen Benchtops provide a huge selection of vibrant colours, stunning patterns, realistic woodgrains, Stone patterns and flash metallics. For a long time now, High Pressure Laminate HPL sheet has been a well proven, moisture resistant, reasonably heat resistant, reasonably hard wearing, affordable decorative Benchtop surface material.

The Crystal and the Quarry textured surface finishes in laminate are more durable than the Satin  finishes while all finshes are reasonably easy to clean. There is also a gloss Laminate finish available, which as a general rule is best kept to the low wear areas of the home; areas like the bathroom. If you find you absolutely must have Kitchen Benchtops in a gloss laminate, then there is a new special gloss laminate now available which is slightly more resistant to abrasion but this can still be scratched and scuffed.

Today's Benchtops can be finished with square edges where you will get a visible joint line, or they can be roll-formed (Post-Formed edges) in a variety of shapes, which includes a very tight top and bottom of a 3mm radius that makes your tops look almost square without having the visible front-edge laminate joins.

At Compass Kitchens we source laminate from only the best manufacturers to provide you with Benchtops that offer a long service life. (You can see our suppliers page for various laminate manufacturers and their colour range.) As a general rule, one should reasonably expect at least 10 years service from high-pressure laminate Benchtops before they start to wear through their clear protective top coating.

As a suggestion, when selecting colour, if you want a dark top, avoid the solid colours and instead choose from the wide variety of dark patterns, as these are less likely to show up any scratches that you may put in your tops over time. Be mindful of the pattern you choose, some modern patterns can date quickly, where natural themes have a more timely appeal when it comes to re-sale.
